Trade Issues

International trade is an important aspect of the leather industry, with hides, skins, leather and leather products all extensively traded globally.

In 2012, the value of global imports of raw hides and skins, part-finished and finished leather was £18.9 billion. Global imports of leather goods, footwear, bags and apparel were valued at £75.5 billion. Leather goods accounted for 27% of the $200 billion market for personal luxury goods. Leather also adds value to the products of the automotive, furniture and aviation industries.
